  i. Special Foreign Investment Deposit Accounts
 


a). Special Foreign Currency / Sri Lankan Rupee Investment (Savings) Accounts :

Citizens of foreign states, Sri Lankan citizens resident outside Sri Lanka, corporate bodies incorporated outside Sri Lanka and foreign institutional investors such as country funds, mutual funds & regional funds, are eligible to open accounts.

Savings Deposits can be made in designated Foreign Currencies or in Sri Lankan Rupees. 

Minimum account balance should be,  US Dollars  10,000.00                                   

These accounts could be credited with proceeds of inward remittances channeled through the banking system, foreign currency in the form of  Traveller's Cheques, Bank Drafts or currency notes brought into the country, by the account holder on declaration to Sri Lanka  Customs.

Debits permitted from these accounts are, Outward Remittances, transfers to other SFIDAs,  disbursements of the account holder in Sri Lanka.

SFIDA accounts are exempted from Income  Tax, Withholding Tax & Debit Tax.

   
  ii. Special Foreign Currency Time Deposits Accounts
 


Special Foreign Investment Deposit Accounts (SFIDA) :

Citizens of foreign states, Sri Lankan citizens resident outside Sri Lanka, corporate bodies incorporated outside Sri Lanka and foreign institutional investors such as country funds, mutual funds & regional funds, are eligible to open these accounts.

Time Deposits can be made in designated Foreign Currencies or in Sri Lankan Rupees: 

a) Designated Foreign Currencies for tenures from 01 month to 01 year. 
b) Sri Lankan Rupees for tenures from 01 month to 5 years.

Minimum deposit amount to be,  US Dollars  10,000.00                                   

SFIDA Fixed Deposit accounts could be opened  with proceeds of inward remittances channeled through the banking system, foreign currency in the form of  Traveller's Cheques, Bank Drafts or currency notes brought into the country, by the account holder on declaration to Sri Lanka  Customs.

SFIDA Fixed Deposit accounts are exempted from Income  Tax, Withholding Tax & Debit Tax.
   
  iii. Senior Foreign Nationals - Special Accounts
 

Foreign Nationals above 55 years of age who wish to prolong their stay  in Sri Lanka on Residence Visa can open Senior Foreign Nationals - Special Accounts,  under the "My Dream Home Programme",  introduced by the Government of Sri Lanka. Under this scheme, the applicants are allowed to bring their spouses and dependants, to the country.

Applicant  under this scheme is required to remit a minimum sum of U.S. Dollars 15,000.00 or its equivalent in other convertible foreign currency and deposit them in Fixed Deposit Foreign Currency Account in the name of the applicant. The money so deposited should remain in the account as long as the applicant stays in Sri Lanka.

In addition to the above stated, a monthly remittance of U.S.Dollars 1,500.00 for the principle applicant and U.S.Dollars 750.00 or equivalent in other convertible foreign currency, for the accompanying spouse and each dependant child for their upkeep in Sri Lanka need to be deposited in Sri Lanka Rupee Savings or Current Account in the name of the

   
  iii.a. Senior Foreign Nationals Fixed Deposit Account (SFNFDA):
  Deposits can be made in designated Foreign Currencies, for tenures  from 01 month to 01 year. Initial  deposit  should  be not less U.S.Dollars  15,000.00 or equivalent in other convertible foreign currency, brought into the country through banking channels.

Withdrawals are permitted at the time that the applicant decides to terminate his stay in Sri Lanka.
   
  iii.b. Senior Foreign Nationals Rupee  Account (SFNRA):
  Rupee Savings or Current Accounts can opened in the name of  Senior Foreign Nationals under this scheme.

Deposits can be made from Rupee proceeds of monthly foreign currency remittance received  on account of principle applicant , spouse and other dependants.

In addition to the above, Rupee equivalent of interest paid on funds held in SFNFDA will be credited to SFNRA.

Withdrawals are permitted for local expences of the account holder and dependants and outward remittances for payments for current international transactions of the account holder and / or his / her dependants resident in Sri Lanka.

SFNFDA & SFNRA  are exempted from Income  Tax, Withholding Tax & Debit Tax.
